Something new for Iris
Last Tuesday, I took Iris for her first actual agility class. After a break from school for pregnancy and motherhood, Iris was more than ready to get back to class. She just turned two and while she has extensive time in with Rally training, I had held off with agility class in order to let her skeleton mature. We had dabbled at home with contact obstacles and some small jumps, so we went straight into Intermediate agility with her.
Our biggest challenge was in getting Iris to work off of my right side. All of her training until now had her on my left. I was also very clumsy at handling, it's been over a year since I was on an agility course. Todd came with me. Together we introduced her to the open tunnel in about 3 minutes. After a few tries, Iris was beating me to the end of the tunnel when I'd send her. Same easy introduction to the table and tire jump. Weave poles are a work in progress, but I see the drive coming. Iris sat there and just watched the other dogs. When she had to wait for her turn on the teeter, I could see the impatience in her face. Iris thought the experience overall was great. I'm looking forward to taking her back for class this week.
