Local Puppy Breeder Burned Down
Here's the news story. They breed 24 varieties. I'm not quite sure how many litters they do a year, but they have six available now. I've heard there are literally dozens of small dogs on the loose in Arundel. In the past this would bring my great glee, but because Amanda is a veterinarian, her paycheck is dependent on folks buying large numbers of dogs. In fact, the more health issues bred into the dog, the more money she can make. How messed up is that? I'm not suggesting this breeder is producing poor quality dogs, I have no opinion either way. Just that there wouldn't be enough dogs to go around without high-volume breeders, and without a lot of dogs, there wouldn't be much work for veterinarians. Any breeder can produce poor quality dogs, but if you combine poor quality with high volume, you get a lot of dogs with big vet bills.
I adore the fact that their web site claims to have many satisfied customers. They do more litters at a time than I have in a year. Do you think folks are going to buy a dog then hate it? Just on the numbers they should have hundreds of satisfied customers a year.
They are AKC inspected, which apparently happens for folks registering over seven litters per year, or who have signed complaints against them.
They advertise they have APRI "approved" dogs. The APRI is a registery dedicated to the pet breeding industry. I'm sure you can figure it out. Apparently they don't have those pesky inspections. APRI is the premier registry for folks who sell "wholesale" and to pet stores.
