Ask Dr. Amanda: Anaphylactic Shock
OK, I was going over the search results that brought folks to our blog. I've found folks looking for information in their searches. One search question was:
Can dogs survive anaphylactic shock?
Can dogs survive anaphylactic shock?

In order for the dog to survive, it needs immediate medical attention. If you suspect anaphylactic shock, go to the emergency hospital now.
Anaphylactic shock is a severe overreaction of the immune system to a trigger. Dogs have far fewer triggers for anaphylactic shock. Peanuts, shellfish, insect stings are all unlikely to send a dog over the edge. However, anaphylactic shock is possible in dogs.
The treatment will be similar to human treatment (antihistamines and epinephrine), but the doses of the drugs are different than in humans. You need a veterinarian, this is not a "wait until tomorrow" or "maybe I can find the treatment on Google" situation.
