A little about the turkey itself.

The double-breasted turkeys we eat today are NOTHING like the real wild birds or domestic birds.  The grocery store birds are "perfect" to raise because they grow to maturity in half the time, on half the feed.  They are so large they can't breed on their own.  Their meat is mild in flavor, like light beer.  Americans love them, and that's OK.

But a real old-school bird takes about six months to raise.  They are closer to domesticated wild birds.  And they taste like actual turkey.

We are planning to raise about 20 Narragansett turkeys next year.  Our research says this is closest to the traditional New England turkey.  It's considered "threatened" by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.  They will be raised on appropriated diet including natural foods and without antibiotics or hormones.  They should taste fabulous and make any holiday meal special.

If you'd like one, we are going to take small deposits that will guarantee you a bird and lock in a reduced price.  They aren't cheap, but you will get a high-quality bird that will actually taste like turkey.  You will know your bird wasn't raised in a factory, but on a real small farm.
