Walmart's $4 and $10 drug program

Walmart recently introduced a $4 prescription program and then extended it to $10 for a 90-day supply.  The list is very long and includes a number of generic drugs routinely used in veterinary medicine.  Almost every pharmacy I have visited have offered to match the program, so basically you don't need to use Walmart to get the pricing.

A few years ago I was at a gun show and noticed a used rifle that was priced about $25 more than what the same rifle cost new at Walmart.  I asked the gun store owner about it (yes, the folks at gun shows are actually gun stores) and he said the rifle in question had some collector value.  He also said he wouldn't carry the rifle new because Walmart's retail price was lower than he could get one at wholesale.

I know it was a long story to get to a point, many of these drugs are available at retail for much less than your veterinarian can buy them through their distributors.  Here's the entire list.  Don't be afraid to ask your veterinarian to give you a prescription for any drug on this list.  You will likely save a lot of money.

Also, your heartworm protection (requires a prescription) and flea and tick protection (no prescription) are available at prices lower than most veterinarians can buy them.  There are generic alternatives to Heartgard that can save you even more money.  When our current supply of heart worm meds runs out, we will be using Iverhart Max.  It's a generic copy of Heartgard with an added ingredient to kill tape worm.  With the amount of exposure to the wild natural universe puts them at higher risk of contracting tape worm, Lepto, beaver fever and other things most folks don't have to worry about.
