Sara Palin best thing since Ronald Wilson Regan
OK, you folks know I'm a huge second amendment supporter. I would actually vote for a pro-gun democrat that was running against an anti-gun republican (of course, the likelihood of that happening is really slim).
I'm not really very high on McCain. Seriously, he's "pro-gun" enough, but the McCain Feingold Act did nothing but hamstring the NRA's first amendment rights while allowing big Unions to run ads whenever they wanted. Also, I think he's too old. Consider that the youngest voters were not only born after Viet Nam, they were born after the Stallone and Norris movies about Viet Nam. The years spent in the POW camps were horrid, and make McCain appear even older than he actually is. It's not his fault his cheeks are puffy (cancer treatment) or his shoulder droops (beaten by captors) or his hair is white (lack of foresight to start coloring years ago). He just doesn't look "presidential" in the way that say Mit Romney does.

For the record, readers of my blog will note that I was a big Thompson supporter. Not only did he have the conservative credentials, he played the part on TV.
We know Americans in general elections prefer to elect governors to the White House than legislators. You see, in any mass body of co-equal politicians, you wind up compromising enough to make everybody hate you. Governors are leaders. Senators are scum. So now with two senators running for the white house, the running mate becomes important. Obama decided to get an old white man, a fellow senator, one who plagiarized his political speeches 20 years ago. What was Barry thinking? Old white dude who has been a senator since 1973. Old white dude that has been nothing but a Senator.
Anyway, I expected a similar move from McCain. Oh, maybe some diversity for diversity's sake, but his Veep would come from the tried-and-true ranks such as political adversaries, long-term politicians, even Carly Fiorina's name was out there (she turned HP around but, by "around" I mean ran it into the ground faster than her predecessor could have). Carly was "successful" mostly because the mainstream media wanted her to be successful and told the world she was successful. Carly was not successful, she was just a woman CEO of a once-grand company.
So, when I heard this Sara Palin name, I thought "What looser did McCain get to stand beside him while he lost the election?" Then I heard some of the dirt being slung, and thought, "Hmmm. Not very well vetted, I see." But after digging in a bit, I think Sara might have what it takes to actually push this old white man into the white house.
First, Palin's looks are straight out of central casting. It's as if some Hollywood director said "Get me someone who looks like she could be the first female President!" (Yes, I think looks are important for winning national elections -- ask Nixon. National elections are TV shows. Big reality TV shows. How do I know? They are on TV!)

OK, she's a little too good looking for Veep. Bun up her hair or something to make her look more serious. Yes, that's the look. (Yes I know it's a photo shop job. But I think it's funny.)

It turns out she's a "Hockey Mom" who has worked her way up from the president of the PTA to the Governor of her state. She's still having sex with her husband, as evidenced by the fact that they are still having kids. You know, I kind of like that. I'm not trying to be crass or anything, it's just that the current and previous Presidents and Vice Presidents have either seemed quite asexual, or hyper-sexual, just not with their spouses.
One bit of "dirt" is "Troopergate." Now if you have heard about "Troopergate" in the past, it was because Bill Clinton, as governor of Arkansas, was using state troopers to solicit sex from other state employees. Those who participated got rewarded, those who did not got fired, and ruined.
In Palin's troopergate, she wanted her sister's ex-husband fired. If what the Palin's allege is true he should be fired (but so should the Massachusetts State Trooper who slammed head-on into my brother, after he passed out drunk at the wheel of is cruiser. I don't have to say "allegedly" because he was convicted and kept his job.) So fires the head of the state police for his failure to remove the cop.
So let's compare:
Palin's Troopergate = Firing a douchebag for failing to fire a drunken creep.
Clinton's Troopergate = Fire state employees who won't have sex with him.
Another allegation is that her husband, while in his early twenties, got a single DUI. Obama admitted to using Cocaine. VP candidate's husband drank and drove and got caught. Presidential candidate did lines of blow, or maybe hit the crack pipe (he's not really clear) and didn't get caught. Teddy Kennedy, who called Barack "Osama Obama, er Obama bin Laden," and is a huge supporter actually drown a girl in a car and tried to cover it up.
Did you know Palin hunts? Gasp. She gets up at 03:00 and hunts moose. Here's a pic of her with a caribou and one of her kids.

It looks line she is wearing her own cloths, and is actually touching the dead thingy. The Palin family eats moose and caribou.
Here's a few of John Kerry (Obama has wisely eschewed the NRA vote).

Since not everyone knows what's wrong with the picture, I'll explain. First, he appears to have never held a gun before. He grasps it like it's a hockey stick or something. His stance is bad. Kerry looks surprised, like a bull is about to rush him. His thumb should be on the safety, switching the gun to "fire" at this point in the gun mount. Between the stance and the uneasy grasp of his tool, he will not smoothly mount and swing the gun. He will not shoot his target.
Maybe some of my buddies in the Midwest will weigh in here, but either his gun is wrong for his outfit, or the other way around. He's in jeans. Jeans might be OK, but it pairs better with a more affordable firearm. The jacket might be Orvis, very ni$e, but topped with a cheap orange vest to make him legal. You can buy them with the orange sewn on, so you don't look like an idiot. (Horse folks, think about cowboy boots, tails, a fox hunting bugle, in the gates at the Kentucky Derby. It just doesn't quite fit.)
Also, no orange hat. Probably legal, but bird hunting is the activity most likely to get you shot. (Ask Chaney.) Your hair is not so beautiful that folks will not shoot you.
Here are a couple of pictures that show exactly how close Kerry was willing to get to the dead animals.

He won't actually touch a dead animal. Oh, look, his goose gun is an over and under, and he does own brush pants. Only he wears them in the goose blind. Both guides appear to be carrying semi-automatics. His comments at the time of the goose hunt were that he was too lazy to carry his goose, then he changed the subject to the Red Sox. That dog don't hunt.
Palin, on the other hand, actually handles dead fish.

Note the fingers in the gills, the torn hoodie. Her own clothes? Not brand new? You mean maybe she's done this before? Alaska has three industries (four if you count cashing government checks): mining, fishing and fishing and mining cash from tourists. Palin's family is likely involved in all of them.
OK, the next big complaint about her is the kids. How can this little lady take care of her kids and do her job as VeeP? Does this attack really come from the LEFT? Are you kidding me? The whole country has their kids in daycare so mommy can work. Do the democrats actually think it's impossible for a modern feminist to do her job and have young children? I think they might.
Now she's using her Down Syndrome kid as a prop. She can't win on this one. She'd either be "using him as a prop" or "embarrassed and hiding him from the public." I think the baby will survive the little bit of face time he got on TV.
Palin's 17 year old daughter is pregnant. Oh my god, that NEVER happens. Palin will be a 44 year old grandma. My grandma was a 40 year old grandma, her mother became a great grandma the day I was born, at 54. I sure am glad Mimi didn't abort Grandma, and Grandma didn't abort mom. I wouldn't be here.
So her daughter screwed up and got knocked up, probably on prom night. So what? Does it make Palin a failure as a mother? I don't think so. Do you think our high schools are chock full of virgins? The media are attacking a 17 year old girl for doing what 17 year olds the world over do.
Palin was once Pentecostal, and they have some "odd" beliefs. Speaking in tongues and the rapture, for instance. If you are a Christian, you believe in the virgin birth and resurrection of the flesh. The old testament mentions human-eating giants. So really how far "out there" is someone speaking gibberish? How can you predict that folks' bodies will not disappear from the Earth just prior to God destroying it? Give me a religion, and I will find something odd about it.
As for all that other crap in you in-box, it just isn't true.
Do I like Palin? You bet. She's the breath of fresh air Republican Politics needs. The hockey mom who takes on Washington DC. Pretty, principled and genuine.
I'm not really very high on McCain. South Carolina Democratic chairwoman Carol Fowler sharply attacked Sarah Palin today, saying John McCain had chosen a running mate " whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn’t had an abortion.”
Palin is an opponent of abortion rights and gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, earlier this year after finding out during her pregnancy that the baby had Down syndrome.
Fowler told my colleague Alex Burns in an interview that the selection of an opponent of abortion rights would not boost McCain among many women.
“Among Democratic women and even among independent women, I don’t think it helped him,” she said.
Told of McCain's boost in the new ABC/Washington Post among white women following the Palin pick, Fowler said: "Just anecdotally, I believe that those white women are Republican women anyway."
