Subject: Puppies Still Available?
Hello,
My husband and I are interested in adopting/purchasing a GSP puppy. We are wondering if you have any pups looking for a home now or within the next 2 months?
If you do not have any pups available, do you know of another breeder that you could recommend in the New England area?
We are located in MA and are willing to travel to meet the breeder and puppies.
Thank you,
Stephanie

We have a nine week old pup ready to go home now. What qualities are you looking for in a pup?

Hi Amanda,
We are interested in a GSP because of the traditional characteristics of the breed. Specifically, we would like a dog that can be warm, loving, and friendly. We realize most of these traits come with training and attention from the owner.
I love to get out and walk and run and I would love to have a dog that needs lots of exercise. I am a photographer and I'm home a fair part of the day - so I am looking for a dog that can lay at my feet for a couple of hours and then wants to go run around outside to let out some energy. We are looking for a dog that is good with kids (though we don't have any yet) and is good around strangers (we expect with training.) I previously owned a Greyhound and loved his energy outside, but he didn't have much of a personality once indoors. My husband owned a black lab and had a great experience with this dog too.
This may sound crazy, but we are looking for a puppy to start our family. As I was looking at your site more I realized that your pups might be trained more as hunters rather than family dogs?
Please let me know if you have any questions for us.
Thanks,
Stephanie and Ian

THE "traditional trait" of German Shorthaired Pointers is they hunt. Any dog bigger than a toy can keep up with your active lifestyle. Warm, loving and friendly is available from any shelter.
German Shorthaired Pointers don't traditionally recline calmly at ones feet for hours a day. The youngsters, those less than four or five years old, tend to find something to do, like raid the trash. My ten-year-old is whining and panting right now because he's bored with e-mail.
I don't sell GSP's to non-hunters under any circumstances. I suggest you consider another breed (I'm partial to standard poodles -- they have the qualities you are looking for) or get an adult dog from GSP rescue.
We don't recommend any breeder who produces non-hunting GSP's or sells to non-hunting homes.
