Crazy Week for Me
OK, I just took an inventory of what I've done veterinary-wise in the past week.
I'm "on call" for the next c-section. Made the "A-Team."
It's been a roller-coaster week and my knowledge and understanding has increased dramatically.
- I yanked porcupine quills from two dogs (not mine, thankfully).
- Whelped a litter of my puppies naturally.
- Took my first x-ray. (Well, I held Dove's front end and cooed to her while stepping on the trigger. Amanda set everything up, and I'd done the holding and cooing part before.)
- Watched a large dog spay. (Hint, get it done young, before they are anywhere near 40 pounds. It's a lot less surgery and lower odds of complications.) This would have not been possible for me to watch a year ago; I'd have gotten sick.
- Docked and Dew Clawed six puppies.
- Helped deliver a litter via Emergency C-Section. Three of eight surviving pups were revived by me and two of those seemed like goners. A little luck and a little skill. More in a separate blog entry.
- Correctly diagnosed a broken jaw in a puppy. Hand fed that pup for two days, then had to put him down.
