Canine Rabies Eliminated from the US

The CDC has declared the US Canine Rabies Free.  This is good news, but doesn't mean your dog can't get rabies.  It means the cycle of dog-to-dog transmission has been broken and the canine strain no longer exists in the US.  Un-vaccinated dogs can still get rabies from wild critters, and we've got more than our share around here.

What is likely to mean is that dogs EXPORTED from the states, either for sale or traveling with their owners will likely see fewer quarantine restrictions.
