Rest in Peace, Jack

Today Todd and I had to do something no breeder ever wants to do.  We euthanized Jack at our home today.  Todd made the original mistake in selling to owner number one who wasn't honest with Todd about his situation in terms of owning a high-energy dog.  Owner one no longer wanted the dog once his family situation changed, but was unwilling to return Jack to Todd.  Any dog we bring into this world may always be returned to us.  Instead of training Jack, this owner used excessived force upon this dog repeatedly.  This mentally damaged Jack to the utmost.

Owner number one sold Jack to an unsuspecting guy in NJ without disclosing all the relevant information.  Owner number two did not contact us to find out the story behind the story.  We recently received a phone call from owner number two looking for more information about Jack.  Owner number two had been attacked by Jack in a misplaced act of agression over a ball.  Owner number two had received 25 sutures to close the wounds received.  Todd explained to the owner that this was a dog that could not be placed through rescue due to the bite history.

Instead of being a responsible, loving, compassionate dog owner and taking Jack for the final vet visit; this owner placed a free to good home ad.  An ad for a dog who could not ethically be rehomed.  Another breeder, and friend who thought she might be able to rehabilitate him, picked Jack up only to call us a few hours later to verify what we had know all along.  The only realistic option for Jack was euthanasia.  Jack was dropped off with Todd this morning.  I came home from the office to euthanize Jack.  He's buried in our front yard.  All because he had the misfortune of ending up in the care to two individuals who are not fit to own a dog.  Jack was a sweet, wonderful dog who was raised with children in and out of the whelping box.  His siblings are some of the most affectionate dogs you could ever ask to meet.  But Jack was denied that good care once he left us and the end result is a dog who didn't see his second birthday.

So Sorry to hear of the loss of Jack. Id' like ten minutes in a small room alone with the guy who wrecked that dog. What a loser.

Sorry to hear of this difficult and heartbreaking situation. Glad to hear that you teach and practice responsibility. Keep trying to educate folks. I would really love to believe that most of the animal abuses out there happen out of ignorance not malice.
