Porcupine 1, Diva 1
While training Diva went on point. I thought, "I don't think the bird we planted went that far" when I saw the confusion on her face. I wasn't in any position to get the check-cord. She pounced on the moving target; a porcupine.
She got quilled in the mouth, face and delicate areas of her foot and wrist. The porcupine scurried off into a rock pile. Fortunately for us, we had a shotgun and introduced the rotten animal to two rounds of bird shot at close range.
Then it was back to Dr. Amanda for the now too familiar tranquilize and de-quill routine. After a couple of days fighting off the infection and inflammation, Diva is back to normal. Without Amanda, my vet bills would be in the mid five figures over the past year.
If anyone knows an effective method to trap or hunt porky, please let me know.
