Mason at 6 months
Here we are at six months and Mason is becoming quite the companion. I was reading this website the other day and read the blurb about his father again. Other than looks he seems to have some of the same characteristics as his dad. Mason really likes the water (thanks for the advice Pasquale about being patient)
He catches on pretty quick when he is introduced to a new task. Mason displays a ton of confidence, not cockiness he is not a 'jerk'. He is growing at a rapid rate he is 57 lbs, although his brother Brutus (who is still available) is supposedly bigger. He has a lot of desire, about two months ago we had Mason at a NAVHDA training event at the Sebasticook chapter.
We planted two bird on two different occasions in a field and brought Mason into the field. He was successfully able to point the first bird with out busting it and he was able to track for a few yards then he finally caught it. When he caught it he kept in his mouth and ran around to show it off. He may not have brought it to my hand but he did not chew or kill it, with a four month old puppy that is a score as far as I am concerned. When we planted the second bird the results were just the same, the only difference was the point that he put on the second bird, it was textbook!!
Since that day I have been able to take Mason to a field near my house and let him run around and fetch a ball or a dummy. He has gotten real consistent with fetching an object and return to me. Mason has also been reintroduced to the water and he loves to run into the water to fetch an object. So with bird hunting season right around the corner and the progress Mason has made and hopefully will continue to make, bird season should be a lot of fun, more so than usual. All there is to do now is find some birds for Mason to play with and GIT R' DONE!!!!
Oh Todd and Amanda I know I was there but again Congrats!!!!!
