LUCY IS HOME!! THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE HELPED.
Last night, as we getting ready to leave to meet up with friends, we received a phone call from some folks over on Square pond reporting that they had seen Lucy. She had been seen the night before but had already fled by the time I got there. Todd and I raced over and tried to close off the area. We were aided by a fence on the property. After checking underneath some buildings, I approached the feeding station Lucy had been using. Then I heard the most wonderful sound. . . jingling dog tags. I walked forward and saw a cute, tri-color corgi. I called to her and she bolted. The gentleman who had called us and myself moved through the area; but never got closer than 10 feet. Then, I couldn't hear Lucy.
Looked some more and headed back towards where Todd was serving as a blockade person. I learn that he had actually seen Lucy and she'd had back to the area I'd just come from. So, I began back-tracking, when some folks in a boat call out to us "Is this your dog, in the water?" I raced towards the shoreline. I'm asking them where she is as I'm preparing to ditch my jeans and start swimming after her. At which point they point and tell me she's in their boat. Todd couldn't see her, all he could see was their German Shepherd. Todd thought it was another false alarm. I could see a soggy corgi. We asked them not to let go of her harness. I pitched my shoes towards Todd and waded out to the boat and Lucy was placed in my arms.
Lucy is about a pound and a half underweight, but otherwise in surprisingly good shape. We've treated her for ticks, dewormed her, and started her slowly back on regular rations. For now, she's seems quite content to nap in a kennel on a comfy blanket.
We are indebted to more people than we can name. Tom, Trisha, and their kids are wonderful people who have been helping us the whole way. They have talked to more people and crawled through brush and more looking for this girl. The Fields kept a careful eye out and were able to confim that Lucy hadn't been a victim of the coyotes and bear which have been seen in the area recently. They also made the phone call last night which lead to her capture. Our neighbors all around us have looked out for her. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all who have helped us.
