Subject: EMERGENCY FOSTER NEEDED

Hello all!

We have an emergency situation where we need foster care for a 1 ½ year old neutered, male GSP. He was recently adopted by a family from a pound in MA, but after he ran away repeatedly, the dog officer in their town took possession of him today. The family doesn’t want him back. We have spoken to the dog officer who has agreed to keep him safe for up to a week, but we need to find him a safe place asap. We do have a waiting list for adopters right now, so chances are any foster would be short term. However, we do not want to force or rush a direct adoption in the meantime. We want to find just the right fit so this doesn’t happen again.

The bottom line is that the family is only giving the dog 15 minutes a day of exercise. Not enough. He is left tied out in the yard and he escapes his collar and digs under the fence to chase rabbits, I am told. [ed. note:  I'd be dissapointed if he didn't escape a tie-out.]

He is living with a 3 and 6 year old child and does well with them, respects them and tolerates the noise that comes with them. He is healthy, housebroken and UTD on shots. Cats are unknown. He is living with an older female Shepard and does well with her, but the family has not socialized him with other dogs otherwise. The only other info about dog to dog behavior she could give me was that he was good at the vet, just sniffing other dogs inquisitively. Never has shown any signs of aggression at all while with them the past 4 months. He knows sit and no and supposedly walks ok on lead with a choke collar.

His owner describes him as quiet in the house, spends a fair amount of time in his crate, in which he sleeps at night. He has shown no other destructive behavior beyond the digging out of the yard.

If you can help with this pup, PLEASE contact me or Audrey asap!
