Amanda 1, Porcupine 0
Now, if you read the last blog entry, you'll know that Colt has a nasty run-in with a porcupine two nights ago. Todd has been gone to Massachusetts for the past couple of days. Tonight was my late night at the office, but since Todd has stopped for pizza for us, I got home first. Jeeves slipped outside last night and is too busy mousing to have checked in at home.
Poppy and I got out of my car and started doing a sweep of the yard and calling for the cat prior to going indoors and setting everyone else lose. As I was strolling around, I heard a rustling sound. Thinking it might be Jeeves, I wandered towards the rustling. Instead of my handsome kitty, I see a very spikey looking tail. I put Poppy in a sit stay and cautiously walked closer. Mr. porcupine scurried up a tree upon seeing my approach.
I raced back into the house and called Todd on his cell phone. I asked which gun I should grab as I had our *** porcupine up a tree. The dogs are of course all going ballastic because I'm home and they've been in kennels since six that morning. I could only find one bullet. I scurried back outside, loaded, and took aim. I fired and I spanked the porcupine in the ass with bird shot. It went further up the tree. As I'm standing there trying to figure out whether to go hunt for more bullets or stay put keeping tabs on the porcupine, I can hear a car accelerating up the hill and figure it's probably Todd hastening home.
It was indeed Todd. He found the box of bullets and dispatched the porcupine with a couple of shots. We've bagged up the porcupine and are grateful to have nailed him before he nailed another dog.
