Last week 2 of 3 - Bird Camp

Bird camp was fun this year.  Corey, Sean, Ted Williams, and I went to Fish River Lodge in Eagle Lake, Maine.

Corey and Ted ran Emma and Walker’s legs off on Monday and Tuesday.  They had to go home on Wednesday.

Norman is kind of dependant on Sean.  So it took hunting him all day every day to get to the point that he’d really stretch and range a little.  He’s not convinced there are birds in the woods, and neither am I.

The bird population is awful in Maine.  The grouse were frequently still in broods, meaning that sometimes you find three birds in two hours, but they are all together.  The birds are young, probably a second hatch, and who knows if they’ll make the winter.  The beechnuts are good, so there’s a chance to fatten them up.  Maybe next year will suck less.  There are pockets of birds, but mostly in ganky areas, where even if you find them, there’s no way to shoot them.
