Foster Home Needed for "Beans"

I recieved the following from the GSP Rescue.  Beans is an older dog, which are always hard to place.  I can tell you that at eight, you get all the same love and affection, without (most of) the hyperactivity.  Food agression is no big deal.  If you are a multi-dog household, feed in crates.

Hi everyone

I’m sending this out to the larger list because I’m hoping someone can help or knows someone who can help.
I need a foster home for one of the dogs on our site, Beans, an 8 yr old male. Currently, he is in foster care with one our volunteers, but it was just a short-term situation. He’s been there for about a month and needs to moved as soon as possible. They were going to try to make it work for longer, however Beans has been showing some dominance/food aggression with their other dogs. You can read about Beans on our site but here’s some added information from the current foster mom:
  1. Is starting to show some food aggression with other dogs
  2. Barks a lot, mostly when I am gone.  He is already attached/clingy to me. Typical GSP.
  3. 3. Snores loudly.  It is cute, but some people could find this annoying.
  4. 4. Messy eater/drinker.  Just needs a carpet/placemat under food.
  5. Does listen when I tell him to "come".  I have taken him for several walks off leash and even though he kind of speeds ahead, he does come when called, or eventually checks back in w/me while on the trail.
  6. Not a good swimmer.
  7. He is an absolute loveable dog.  His tail is ALWAYS wagging.

Honestly, we’ve been seeing this A LOT lately with food aggression. The easiest fix is to not feed them in the same room, or give them treats together. When Beans first went into foster care, this problem wasn’t really there. It’s only surfaced recently so I am going to out on a limb here and say that’s it probably extremely manageable. Also, the foster family has a GSP and a Shih Tzu. I know one of my GSP’s goes nuts when he sees a small dog at the park. Perhaps Beans is exercising a combination of dominance and prey drive. Hard to know.

Anyway, I need to resolve this as fast as possible. If anyone can help, PLEASE email me!

Thanks!!

Audrey
