Colt is Getting Old

Colt will be 8 in a few weeks, and he's getting old.  It's pretty hard on me to watch.  Don't get me wrong, he's not failing in health so much as he can't do what he used to do.

He stopped jumping up on the tailgate of the truck last year.  As a pup he went over the side into the bed.

His hunting style was fun last year, trotting around rather than running so hard.  I felt he was hunting smart, not hard.  His increased mental skills overcoming decreased physical ones.

Now a few hours of running will put him up lame for a day.  Dr. Amanda says that a scrip for Rimadyl will help ease the aches and pains.  But seeing him limp around is a painful reminder that dogs don't live long enough, and my own aging body.

Colt has run of the house today so he doesn't have to try to get comfortable in the kennel.
