Why the Blog?

OK, let's start with what a Blog is.  It's short for Web Log, and it's much easier to post to a blog than update a web page.  This is like typing an email, rather than updating the site.  When I post an update to the site, the computer actually reloads about 800 separate files.  When I post a blog, the post is the only thing that goes up.  Click and it's done.

Because they are cheap (most hosted on free sites, this one not) and easy, they've become basic on-line journals.  Some are good, some bad, most ignored.  Of course, anyone can find anything anybody writes in their blog.  This is "public" but only to the extent that someone actually has to look for it.  I like the informal nature, the ease, and the fact that I can go kind of "off topic" here, where I wouldn't feel so comfortable on www.marshfieldkennel.com

The style allows me to post new stuff without erasing the old.  The old just piles up at the bottom.  The blog is here for me to post information in a more casual manner and perhaps make a more intimate connection with my readers.  Most blogs allow for one blogger to write, but others to comment.  This blog is a little more advanced and can be used similar to a forum.

Folks ask me about the "personal" information I post.  For me, I don't consider many aspects of my life personal.  If you read it here I don't care who knows.

Another question I get often is if I'd allow someone to say something negative about me or the dogs.  Yes, I would.  To put it simply, I believe an open and honest discussion benefits me and my breeding program in the long run.  Other breeders work hard to keep the problems in their breeding program secret.  It's been my experience that those secrets get out and it's always worse when you hear it from someone else.  Not only is it disappointing that you had to hear from some third channel, if it becomes grist for the rumor mill, then the info gets distorted way out of proportion.

If a little negative information is going to run off a potential buyer, I'm probably better served.  That guy can buy a pup from someone else, and I don't have to deal with the kind of person who doesn't understand the risks and rewards of puppies.
