Get high speed internet and VoIP phone
OK, I'm still down about the goings on at Marshfield Kennel, but I can't always be down.
I've gotten the "real" bills for my new internet service and phone. OK, I went from Verizon for a dial tone and AT$T for long-distance and a dial-up connection with People PC.
That cost $35 + (average of) $40ish + $15. For a total of over $80 per month, on average.
Now I pay exactly $20 + $45. For a total of $65 a month.
In addition to the dial tone and 42 KB per second internet speed, I get unlimited local and long-distance calling to the US, Canada (which is awesome, because I actually talk to people in Canada now), caller ID, Call waiting (caller ID on call waiting), a cool place to check who called me and who I called, and my cell phone rings when my home phone rings (I'm down to 1 number thanks to a little slight of hand). AND I can browse the internet and talk at the same time.
I use the internet WAY more, and can even get live scoring on my Fantasy Football League. I use the phone WAY more. I guy from Canada called a few weeks ago to ask about a particular kennel he knew I did business with. "Wait, I'll call you back. No, don't worry, its FREE for me. No, I have your number on my caller ID." What would have been a rushed conversation turned into 15 minutes of delight. Reasoned conversation with a new acquaintance thanks to my UNLIMITED calling.
The downside: The phone service is not exactly as good as the land line. However, the difference is like a six-ounce fillet mignon for $90, or fifteen hamburgers for $22.
